Local man Ben Carling set himself the challenge to cycle a lap of the TT course every day in April to raise awareness and funds for two local causes, Crossroads Care and Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity.
Ben peddled one lap of the famous 37.75 Mountain circuit daily from Sunday 1 April until Monday 30 April, covering a total of more than 1,100 miles.
Ben completed the challenge on Monday 30 April after a gruelling 75 hours on the saddle battling snapped chains, broken spokes, snow, torrential rain and traffic.
Ben ended the cycle with a final fundraiser in aid of Crossroads Care and Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity at Grill in the Park where he learned the total raised neared £3,000.
Ben said: “What I have done could be considered an easy job in comparison to what both Crossroads Care and Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity do everyday. I am thrilled to have made it to the end but more importantly to have raised funds and awareness for two deserving local charities. I couldn’t have done it without all the support form everyone, who deserve praise too”.
Both charities are delighted with Ben’s contribution to support their work on the island. The funds will be split equally between the two charities to support family and informal Carers and people with additional care needs and brain tumour sufferers on the Isle of Man.
